Amazing Race
The third annual Amazing Race will run from
April 12 through May 23 (6 weeks). During that time, participants will strive to complete a 5 mile swim, a 224 mile bike and a 52 mile run. People may do this on their own or split it in any way with a partner.
If you would like to accept the challenge, you’ll be on your honor to keep track of your accomplishments by way of a tally sheet. For the running portion of the race, we will allow you to substitute different exercises for miles as follows: 1 aerobics class = 2 miles and 30 minutes on the elliptical machine or stairmaster = 3 miles. The great thing about it is that this can be done at your convenience. It can be done inside or outside, with a friend or relative or on your
own.
There will be two intermediary “pit stops” along the way. The first pit stop will be Sunday, April 25. The soloist and team with the most miles recorded at this time will receive a prize. The second pit stop will be Sunday, May 9. Again, the soloist and team with the most miles will receive a prize. The final stop will be on May 23. Every participant will receive a T-shirt for their accomplishment.
Any questions about this should be directed to YMCA Fitness Director, Vicky Burns. She wants to remind people that this is not really a competition, but rather a fitness program. It’s something to do just for yourself—work at your own pace. Check the pool schedule in advance. The YMCA is taking registrations now. You must be a Y member to participate; the
cost is $25 per person.

The YMCA organization started in Chillicothe in 1989 but 2007 will be the
15th year for the YMCA building. The biggest change since 1992 when the doors first opened,
has been in 1999 when the Browning Gymnasium was added, along with a gymnastics center, activities center and weight room.
