FREE FITNESS CLASSES FOR Y MEMBERS
We are now offering FREE land-based Fitness Classes to our members.
This means classes like Kickboxing, Boot Camp, Pilates, Step Aerobics, Cycle Reebok, Body Shape and Lunch Crunch will be FREE to Y members.
Class sizes are limited. Stop by the front desk for more information.
A fitness card must be presented at each class.

MEMBERS: FREE    NON-MEMBERS: $35
Daily Pass Rates (Non-member): Youth $4, Adult $8, Family $12

Unless otherwise marked, classes meet in the downstairs multi-purpose room.

Get Fit Challenge

Want to make that New Year’s resolution to lose weight finally come true? Join the “Get Fit Challenge” for your chance to lose weight, feel great and win money. The Constitution-Tribune and the Grand River Family YMCA have teamed up for this second event designed to give incentive to those wishing to shed those holiday pounds.

In 2007, the inaugural “Get Fit” contest featured 300 participants and proved to be very popular, organizers say. All area residents are invited to participate in the “Get Fit Challenge” which will begin the first week of January and continue for 8 weeks. Whoever loses the highest percentage of his or her original weight by the end of the 8 weeks will be awarded $300 and a one year membership to the Grand River Family YMCA. The second place winner will receive $200 and the third place winner will receive a 1-year subscription to the Constitution-Tribune.

“Everyone makes that New Year’s resolution to lose weight every year and it doesn’t hurt to have a little bit of incentive to make that resolution come true,” said Rod Dixon, C-T publisher. According to Dave Rogers, YMCA director, the YMCA has new, digital scales which read weights up to 440 pounds. “These scales are easier to use and they’re more accurate than the scales we used two years ago,” Rogers explained.

Those interested in participating in the “Get Fit Challenge” should register at the Grand River Area Family YMCA. Applications are available as of today (Monday), through Wednesday, Jan. 9. There is absolutely no cost to participate in the “Get Fit Challenge.”

The YMCA organization started in Chillicothe in 1989 but 2007 will be the 15th year for the YMCA building. The biggest change since 1992 when the doors first opened, has been in 1999 when the Browning Gymnasium was added, along with a gymnastics center, activities center and weight room.

Corporate Challenge - Season begins April 24 with our annual Kick-Off BBQ and Basketball Shootout... sign ups going on now... early registration begins February 22 and ends on April 1, 2010 - $285. Regular registration begins April 2 and ends on April 17 - $335.

Throwin' Darts Closest to the Pin Competition

Preliminary Rounds - Contestants have 10 chances to hit the "closest to the pin" at a randomly selected "virtual" course. The top eight will advance to a championship round. Sign up for your prelim spot today by February 28. Room will be reserved from 6-8 p.m. the following week (March 1-5).

Championship Round - Saturday, March 6

Deadline for sign-up: Saturday, February 28, 2010

Entry Fee: $10 members/non-members

Whether you are playing to brush up on your skills for the next Corporate Challenge or playing for just plain FUN, this league is for you. Participants play a 5-week season with a double elimination tournament during the 6th week.

  • When: Tuesday (Women's Singles) and Thursday (Men's Singles) nights (can arrange different times if there are conflicts)

  • Begins: February 23 through April 1

  • Cost: $8 members / $12 non-members

  • Registration deadline: February 19

YMCA Invitational

  • Sign-ups are going on now for the two-man scramble that our YMCA will host. Each team will be paired with another, and the tournament will begin Friday. After play, teams will be divided into flights and play will continue on Saturday and Sunday (within the hours of the YMCA)

  • Entry Fee: $25 per team

  • Deadline for signing up is Monday, January 18

  • Tournament begins January 22

Golf Simulator

If you haven't been to see the new golf simulator, you are missing out. We'll take you through a short orientation, and you'll be ready to swing. With its second-to-none features and its state-of-the-art technology, it will be like you are on the green. But, you don't get rained (or snowed) on. It's located upstairs in the newly constructed cardio and free weight area.

Cost by the hour: $1.00 per hour for members / Non-Members $4.00/hour and must be accompanied by a member who has been through the orientation

There is no cost for the 45-minute orientation.

Boot Camp

This total body program is guaranteed to get your heart pumping. This high energy, highly efficient workout uses hand weights, cardio and callisthenic drills that are easily tailored to your own desired intensity. Build muscle strength, cardiovascular strength and endurance while burning mega-calories for maximum body shaping.

Pilates

Classic Pilates mat work will strengthen your core while toning and lengthening your muscles. Strong core muscles are beneficial to injury prevention in sports activities and everyday life. The sleek, toned look that Pilates will produce is just an added bonus.

A.M. Circuit

Aerobic Callisthenic and kickbox drills alternated with strength intervals to burn and firm. One minute cardio segments will get your heart pumping to help burn fat, while the one minute muscle conditioning segments strengthen and sculpt your body. Class will end with an abdominal blast.

Create explosive energy with this aerobic-anaerobic interval workout! Be prepared for a great outdoor ride in the great indoors. Class is offered for an hour and a half, but you can come and go as your schedule allows.

Silver Sneakers

Silver Sneakers I - Muscular Strength and Range of Movement

Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, range of movement, and activity for daily living skills. Handheld weights, elastic tubing with handles, and a ball are offered for resistance, and a chair is used for seated and/or standing support.

The YMCA Multi-Purpose Room is available for rent on a limited basis.
It is equipped with a kitchen, tables and chairs. Available for business, social,
and club meetings of all kinds. Call for details and availability: 646-6677.

Health Fair at the YMCA

Lock-Ins
Your school group, church, or youth organization can rent the YMCA for Lock-Ins on either Friday or Saturday nights. The cost is $35 per student. There is a minimum charge of $215 and maximum charge of $430. The facility is available from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. The renting group must provide chaperones and proof of insurance. Advance registration is required. Call Dave Rogers at 660-646-6677 or email him to schedule a lock-in.

A Lifestyle Assessment provides you with an exercise program designed specifically for your level of fitness and your unique situation.
