PURPOSE
The purpose of the summer basketball league is to promote basketball, sportsmanship and
teamwork. It is open to any boy or girl going into grades 7 through 12 (this coming fall)
who wishes to improve his/her skills and gain game experience. The fee is
$26.00 per
player; scholarship assistance is available through the YMCA for those who are unable to
pay the fee.
REGISTRATION
- Please sign up as a team.
- Early registration with fee guarantees a spot
in the league. Team rosters must be turned
in by April 30, 2005. Those received after that date will be accepted only as room
permits.
- Age classifications: Jr. Varsity - those
entering grades 7 through 9 at the beginning of the next school year. Varsity - those
entering grades 10 through 12 at the beginning of the next school year. Note: varsity
teams may not use graduated seniors.
- Boys Jr. Varsity and Girls Varsity teams will
play on Wednesdays and the Girls Jr. Varsity and Boys Varsity will play on Thursdays.
- Please indicate an adult coach who can be
reached for further information.
RULES
- MSHSAA rules will be in effect unless noted
below.
- Games may start with 4 players (but not
less).
- T-shirts will be provided for each player and
team. They must be worn at each game.
- A maximum of 14 and a minimum of 8 players
per roster. Players may play up in age divisions but not down.
- Teams will play a minimum of six games and a
maximum of seven games (there will be no post-league championship tournament).
- The game will consist of two 20-minute
running halves. The clock will stop only during the last two minutes of each half. The
clock will keep running, however, if one team is ahead by more than 20 points with 2
minutes or less to go in the game.
- A 10-minute default rule will be in effect
for the start of the games.
- Any player receiving two technical fouls will
be suspended for one game. Second time offenders will be expelled from the league. Three
technical fouls on any team during any one game will result in a forfeit.
- Each team is allowed two timeouts per game.
Timeouts will last one minute.
- Each player's parent will be required to sign
a waiver of liability before participating in the league (see registration
sheet). Players may be added to the rosters at any
time, but they must have turned in a completed registration
form with parent signature and paid the $26 before they play.
