Matthew Jones

Matt graduated from Hannibal-LaGrange College with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation Management.  While in college, Matt worked as a lifeguard at the YMCA of Hannibal and completed a volunteer internship at South Haven Baptist Church.  He came to Chillicothe in 2008 to become the Grand River Area Family YMCA’s Program Director.  He was appointed Associate Executive Director in 2011 and CEO in 2014.  Matt and his wife Lisa live in Chillicothe with their four children.

Fun Facts:  Matt is a devout supporter of the Florida Gators, and he plays the drums in the praise band at First Baptist Church Chillicothe.

Lacey Pate

Lacey graduated from the University of Central Missouri with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education K-12 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Athletic and Sports Business Administration.  She began her career with the Y at the Long Branch Area YMCA in Macon in 2010.  She served as the program Director at the North Central Missouri YMCA in Brookfield before coming to the Grand River YMCA in 2014.  Lacey lives in Chillicothe with her husband Jordan and their two children.  They look forward to relocating to Chillicothe soon.

Fun Facts:  Lacey makes unique, custom baby boutique items, and she loves gardening in her free time.

Vicky Burns
Fitness Director

Vicky joined the staff of the North Central Missouri YMCA in Brookfield in 1997.  She served the members there as a fitness instructor, day camp director, and gymnastics coordinator.  After being promoted to Fitness Director at North Central, she doubled her efforts and took the job at Grand River as well.  Vicky holds 20 different YMCA certifications, and she is is certified to teach Zumba®, BodyPump™, and Kickboxing.  She’s also a Y Trainer for Y of the USA.  Vicky and her husband Jimmy live in Brookfield.  They have two grown sons and one very loved grandson.

Fun Facts:  Before coming to the Y, Vicky ran a daycare in her home for 12 years, and every day her daycare children spent 30 minutes working out with Denise Austin.


Susan.png

Susan Davis
Aquatics Director

Susan is certified by the Red Cross as an instructor for Lifeguarding, Water Safety (Learn-to-Swim), CPR/AED, and First Aid.  Susan’s trademark laugh became a fixture at the Grand River YMCA in 2001 when Susan was hired as a janitor.  Before becoming the Aquatics Director in 2013, she also worked as a gymnastics coach, a water aerobics instructor, and a lifeguard.  Susan grew up in Bedford and graduated from Chillicothe High School.  She and her husband raised their three children here in Chillicothe.

Fun Fact:  Susan enjoys fishing, and when she catches a fish, she gets so excited that she starts walking backwards.

Elizabeth (Betsy) Garcia
Gymnastics Director

Betsy has an Associate of Arts degree in teaching from North Central Missouri College and is currently studying for her Bachelors in Elementary Education and Multi-Cultural Studies at Northwest Missouri University.  Betsy became a member of the Grand River YMCA when she was five years old.  She literally grew up in the Y’s gymnastic program, advancing past level 5 as a competitive gymnast with the Aerial Angels team. Betsy became a gymnastics coach in 2012 and took over as Gymnastics Director in 2014.  In addition to coaching gymnastics at the Y, Betsy has also taught ballet, jazz, and tap at Ballet Arts Center for Dance.  Betsy and her husband Stephen live in Chillicothe with their cat Casey.

Fun Fact: Betsy spent 3 months teaching English and Dance classes at orphanages in Thailand.

Fontella Mosier
Membership Director

Fontella studied business and accounting at Southwest Missouri State University West Plains and has worked as a quality control assistant, data entry clerk, and customer service representative.  A native Ozarkian, Fontella moved to Chillicothe in 1987.  In September 2008, she brought her clerical skills and her bright smile to the early morning shift at the Grand River YMCA.  Fontella has two grown daughters, and she lives in Chillicothe with her husband Elijah whom she met at the Y.

Fun Facts:  Fontella can wolf whistle and she likes frog legs.

Larry Skipper

Larry graduated from Chillicothe High School and spent several years working in the electrical field.  He came to the Y in February 2008.  Larry and his wife Sondra have two grown sons.

Fun Fact:  Larry enjoys hunting and fishing.


Shane Personal Trainer

Personal Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Coach

Shane and his wife Kathy, an Administrative Assistant at Central Elementary School, are natives of Chillicothe.  They have five children.  Shane earned his Bachelors in Health and Exercise Science from Missouri Western State University, and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).  He enjoys spending time with God and his family.  He also enjoys training student athletes and helping non-athletes achieve their fitness goals through a one-on-one personal experience.

Fun Fact:  Shane's favorite foods are grilled chicken, corn on the cob, grilled asparagus, and cucumbers.

Shawn Hurtgen
Y-PALS and Christian Outreach Director

Shawn studied English and psychology at Southwest Baptist University and received her Master of Arts in Christian Education from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. She and her husband Rob and their five children moved from St. Louis to Chillicothe in 2012.  Her relationship with the Y began in 1994 when she was a camp counselor at YMCA Camp Lakewood in Potosi, MO.  She also worked at the Jefferson County YMCA in Festus helping with special events like birthday parties and field trips.  Shawn came to the Grand River YMCA in 2014.

Fun Fact:  Shawn went to elementary school on the island of Guam.
