The Grand River Area Family YMCA began in 1989 and opened the doors of its current facility in 1992. The Y expanded in 1999 adding the Browning Gymnasium, gymnastics center, activities center, and weight room.
Gymnasiums
Our two gymnasiums provide plenty of room for basketball, volleyball, indoor tennis, pitching machine action, and much more. Bleachers offer comfortable seating for parents, students, and visitors. We also have a complete scoreboard in our north gym.
Fitness Center
Weight machines, free weights, and cardio equipment are housed upstairs in our Fitness Center. Our certified instructors and adult fitness classes will help you learn the proper way to use the wide variety of equipment. From stationery bikes to elliptical machines, stair climbers, a large selection of weight machines, Cycle Reebok spinning cycles, and Life Fitness treadmills with heart rate monitoring systems, you can select the exercise program appropriate for your needs.
Track
Passing the Fitness Center and looking over the South Gym, our track provides an excellent place for walking or running anytime during business hours. One mile is 16 laps on the inside and 14 laps on the outside of the track. Children may walk on the track with a parent between 7 and 8 pm each evening.
Pool
Our Y boasts one of the only indoor pools in the 8 surrounding counties. The 25-yard lap pool is available throughout the day for adult lap swimming, water aerobics, volleyball, swim lessons, swim team practice, and open swim times. The pool depth ranges from 3.5 to 4 feet on the edges, sloping to 6 feet in the center. We are proud to offer a self-operating hydro water powered lift, along with a Stand-to-Sit lift, to help physically disabled swimmers get in and out of the pool. Hot Tub
Soak away your aches and pains and soothe your sore muscles in our hot tub. The hot tub seats six comfortably and is heated to a toasty 104 degrees Fahrenheit. The hot tub is available to individuals 18 years and older whenever the pool is open.
Sauna
Our sauna measures 6 feet by 8 feet with an inside temperature between 160 and 180 degrees while in use. There are two benches, an upper and a lower bench, and a bucket of water with a ladle for ladling water over hot rocks to increase the feeling of heat. Swimsuits are required inside the sauna; and the minimum age for using the sauna, just like the hot tub, is 18 years of age. The hours of the sauna are the same as for the swimming pool and hot tub.
Locker Rooms
We offer men's and women's locker rooms directly off our main hallway opening into the pool area. Lockers are available free of charge while you're utilizing the facility, or members may rent a locker for a small fee. Click here for our locker rental rates. We also offer a family changing room for parents with opposite sex children over the age of five who may still need assistance. The family changing room is also available to disabled or physically challenged participants in need of special accommodations. The family changing room has a shower, but no restroom facilities. Please ask the Welcome Center staff for the key to the family changing room.
Golf Simulator
Call today to set up your tee time in the Y's golf simulator. We'll take you through a short orientation, and you'll be ready to swing. With its second-to-none features and its state-of-the-art technology, you will feel like you are on the green, but without the rain or snow. The simulator is located upstairs in our cardio and free weight area. The cost for members is $1.00 per hour or $4.00 per hour for program participants. There is no cost for the 15-minute orientation.
Batting Cage
The YMCA's Batting Cage, Pitching Machine, and Pitching Fence is located in the North Gym and can be rented at the cost of $20/hour for Members and $50/hour for Program Participants. Please contact the Welcome Center to check availability.
Soft Play Play Park
The Y has an indoor Play Park area designed especially for our members ages 3 to 10. Adults may check out the key to the Play Park at the Welcome Center. Children must be supervised by a parent or other adult Y member at all times.
Multi-Purpose Room
Our Multi-Purpose Room is the perfect place for aerobics classes and birthday parties. It's also a great location for your next business meeting or family get together. For rental information, please contact our Welcome Center at (660) 646-6677.
Swim in our pool or relax in the hot tub, then shower and change. Play basketball in one of our gyms or watch the action from the viewing areas on the second floor. Whatever your interest, we have it at the YMCA!
