Michael “Mike” Pope
Mike and his wife Angela have 3 children and have resided in Chillicothe since 2015. Mike was born and raised in Southeast Kansas on a small farm. Mike earned his Associates Degree from Coffeyville (KS) Community College, his Bachelors in History from the University of Central Missouri, and his Masters in Athletic and Sports Business Administration from the University of Central Missouri. Mike was a four year letterman in College while playing football and then coached for three seasons at Warrensburg High School while completing his Masters degree. In 2010 Mike joined the US Army and spent 5 years serving on Active Duty in the Corps of Engineers. Mike holds graduate certificates in Engineering and Finance from the US Army Engineer School and US Army Financial Management School. Mike enjoys spending time with his family and working on projects that focus on improving his property and connection with his family. He considers getting married and having three wonderful kids his greatest accomplishments and he believes working for a community organization such as the Y is his dream job.
Fun Fact: Mike was selected by the Commandant of the Engineer school to instruct future Army Leaders for his last Active Duty assignment. He spent over 1500 hours instructing large and small group settings on the art of leadership, science of management, and how to employee organizational skills.
Lacey graduated from the University of Central Missouri with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education K-12 and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Athletic and Sports Business Administration. She began her career with the Y at the Long Branch Area YMCA in Macon in 2010. She served as the Program Director at the North Central Missouri YMCA in Brookfield before coming to the Grand River YMCA in 2014. Lacey lives in Chillicothe with her husband Jordan and their three children.
Fun Fact: Lacey makes unique, custom baby boutique items, and she loves gardening in her free time.
Vicky joined the staff of the North Central Missouri YMCA in Brookfield in 1997. She served the members there as a fitness instructor, day camp director, and gymnastics coordinator. After being promoted to Fitness Director at North Central, she doubled her efforts and took the job at Grand River as well. Vicky holds 20 different YMCA certifications, and she is certified to teach Zumba®, BodyPump™, and Kickboxing. She’s also a Y Trainer for Y of the USA. Vicky and her husband Jimmy live in Brookfield. They have two grown sons and two grandchildren.
Fun Fact: Before coming to the Y, Vicky ran a daycare in her home for 12 years, and every day her daycare children spent 30 minutes working out with Denise Austin.
Fontella studied business and accounting at Southwest Missouri State University West Plains and has worked as a quality control assistant, data entry clerk, and customer service representative. A native Ozarkian, Fontella moved to Chillicothe in 1987. In September 2008, she brought her clerical skills and her bright smile to the early morning shift at the Grand River YMCA. Fontella has two grown daughters and one adorable granddaughter. She lives in Bedford with her husband Elijah whom she met at the Y.
Fun Fact: Fontella can wolf whistle and she likes frog legs.
Madison graduated from Missouri Western State University with a Bachelors of Science focused in physical education and childhood studies. Madison and her husband Austin reside in Chillicothe with their daughter, Bristol. Madison ran track at Johnson County Community College where she received All-American honors. She has coached volleyball at Chillicothe High School for the past four years, and she enjoys spending time helping student-athletes grow and achieve both their athletic and non-athletic goals in life.
Fun Fact: Madison’s passion is sports: the Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas City Chiefs are her two favorites.
Ashley graduated from Missouri Valley College with a Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science. She worked at Pioneer Nursing Home in Marceline, Mo for four years as the therapy department’s Rehab Director/Rehab Coordinator. Ashley enjoys spending time with God and her family. She’s excited to see how God uses her at the YMCA and in the broader community as well.
Fun Fact: In May of 2019, Ashley went on a mission trip to Swaziland, South Africa.
Director of Maintenance
Larry graduated from Chillicothe High School and spent several years working in the electrical field. He came to the Y in February 2008. Larry and his wife Sondra have two grown sons and a new grandbaby.
Fun Fact: Larry enjoys hunting and fishing.
Personal Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Coach
Shane and his wife Kathy, an Administrative Assistant to te CNO at Hedrick Medical Center, are natives of Chillicothe. They have five children. Shane earned his Bachelors in Health and Exercise Science from Missouri Western State University. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and a Certified Level 1 USAW Coach. He enjoys spending time with God and his family. He also enjoys training student-athletes and helping non-athletes achieve their fitness goals through a one-on-one personal experience.
Fun Fact: Shane's favorite foods are grilled chicken, corn on the cob, grilled asparagus, and cucumbers.
Y-PALS and Christian Outreach Director
Shawn studied English and psychology at Southwest Baptist University and received her Master of Arts in Christian Education from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. She and her husband Rob and their five children moved from St. Louis to Chillicothe in 2012. Her relationship with the Y began in 1994 when she was a camp counselor at YMCA Camp Lakewood in Potosi, MO. She also worked at the Jefferson County YMCA in Festus helping with special events like birthday parties and field trips. Shawn came to the Grand River YMCA in 2014.
Fun Fact: Shawn went to elementary school on the island of Guam.
