Baseball is America's favorite past-time, and there's no better place to learn to play than at the YMCA, where sportsmanship and teamwork are always practiced.

The Grand River Area Family YMCA offers youth baseball leagues in multiple formats, from TBall to Baseball and Softball. They are designed to teach young players the fundamentals of the game, including catching, throwing, and batting, in a fun team atmosphere with no tryouts, no getting cut, and no bench warmers!

Leagues

Our Baseball and Softball Leagues organize children into parent/volunteer coached teams.  As part of a team, your child will learn how to throw, catch, field, and hit correctly while focusing on teamwork and fair play.  Each participant receives a team t-shirt. Children must have a glove to play. Cleats are helpful but not mandatory.

In 2021, the YMCA took over the Baseball and Softball leagues formerly run by the Summer Playground Association (SPA). We are excited to continue offering quality softball and baseball programs now and in the future.

BASEBALL (boys) / SOFTBALL (girls)

Our YMCA 10U - 16U baseball and softball teams will play in the Tri-County League. While some travel is involved, most games are played within a one-hour drive from Chillicothe. Playing in the league is an excellent learning experience for our young players as they can play a wider variety of teams. Home games will be played at Danner Park, and a double-elimination tournament will be held mid to late June. Players will receive a shirt, hat, and socks. Everyone must wear long black pants. Neutral-colored cleats are highly recommended. Metal cleats are prohibited.

Ages: 10U (9-10 years), 12U (10-11 years), 14U (13-14 years), 16U (15-16 years) - Age as of April 30!

Machine Pitch 8u Practice Expectations: At least one practice per week. Weekly practices must be at least 60 minutes in length. Practices must include at least 10 minutes of throwing and catching, 10 minutes of fielding, and 10 minutes of batting. Coaches may be innovative and include different types of ways to work on these fundamental skills. Additional games and activities are also highly encouraged to create an exciting environment. We recommend a 2-to-1 ratio for sport-specific practice drills and fun games or group activities for these age groups. Conditioning should be lightly implemented in this division. For every 1-hour of practice time, no more than 15 minutes should be spent on conditioning (only running). Additional "conditioning" may be completed through active drills that are engaged in the sport.
